James May has continued his friendly rivalry with friend and former co-star of 22 years Jeremy Clarkson as he took yet another brutal swipe at the ex-Top Gear star’s new pub.
Alongside his successful TV career, May bought The Royal Oak pub, which is around the corner from his home in Wiltshire.
He has been a successful owner of the pub for the last four years and the popularity of the boozer has soared.
Most recently, May’s former co-star Clarkson bought his own pub – The Farmers Dog – and has claimed he “banned” May and Richard Hammond from going in.
When discussing the end of their TV show The Grand Tour and if they will miss one another, Clarkson admitted: “I can see them whenever I want,” before noting that May will probably not make the trip.
“James probably won’t, but Richard will. I talked to Richard only yesterday,” Clarkson said. “We’re mates and we’ll still see them.”
He added: “We couldn’t possibly have imagined we’d be together 22 years when we started out. And so it’s a wrench, thinking, ‘God, we’re never going to do that again’.
“But by the same token, I don’t have to go through Terminal 5 (of Heathrow airport) quite so often.”
Adding fuel to the friendly fire, May recently discussed their “ban” whilst showing Hammond around his pub.
In a new video with DriveTribe, the pair were stood outside the pub, leaving Hammond to note: “Right this is my first ever visit to your pub since it has become your pub.
“Basically, I have come to visit your pub. The point of this film is you are going to give me a tour of your pub which I haven’t been to since before it was your pub.
“This was never your plan, for this to be your pub,” leaving May to immediately agree: “No, absolutely not.”
After being given the tour, the friends sat down for some dinner together inside the pub which left Hammond to note: “James thank you for the tour.
“What I haven’t asked yet, my stated intention when you said you bought a pub – Get myself banned. What do I have to do?”
Laughing, May revealed: “A pub is a place for discussion, differences of opinion so we’re not going to bar you for having a radicle view.
“However, if you damage any of the artwork, break the windows or insult any of my delightful young staff, then Jamie will assist you in leaving through the window.”

Hammond replied: “Oh… I’ll go for a ban. Jeremy has told me I am already banned from his pub.”
Hitting back at the notion, May expressed: “He told me that, but I said to somebody, it’s like being banned from the golf club, being banned from somewhere where I wasn’t going to go anyway, so, what does it mean?”
